Annual Scientific Meeting

Event Code of Conduct

GI Cancer Trials provides a wonderful opportunity for colleagues from different disciplines to come together and work towards our vision of a better future for people with GI cancer.

Our educational events allow our diverse membership and GI cancer community to connect, collaborate and learn from each other. We are dedicated to ensuring our events are respectful, inclusive and free from harassment for everyone involved.

To participate in a GI Cancer Trials event, all attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers must agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Expected behaviour

To support a collaborative and respectful environment, the following behaviours are expected of all participants attending GI Cancer Trials events:

  • Be respectful towards all attendees, including event and venue staff
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants
  • Actively participate in the meeting, ask questions, and engage with colleagues during breaks
  • Support a participatory learning environment for everyone, be succinct in raising questions and comments to allow time for others to contribute
  • Behave in accordance with professional standards (such as this Code of Conduct, your respective employer’s policies, and applicable law)

Unacceptable behaviour

Harassment, bullying, intimidation, and/or insinuations that are hurtful or interfere with any other attendee’s experience or participation are unacceptable behaviours. Examples of unacceptable behaviour include but are not limited to:

  • Demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour or speech, including but not limited to language that is sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ageist or ableist, any language that insults or demeans the characteristics of a person, and any other personal insults
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, including sexualised comments or jokes, inappropriate touching, groping, or sexual advances
  • Sustained disruption, including during talks and presentations
  • Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person or group
  • Bullying including repeated verbal abuse; verbal, non-verbal or physical conduct of a threatening, intimidating or humiliating nature; or the sabotage or undermining of a person’s performance
  • Any other illegal activity or forms of harassment not covered above

GI Cancer Trials reserves the right in its sole discretion to determine what constitutes unacceptable behaviour, and what actions it will take to address incidents that occur.

Consequences of unacceptable behaviour

Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated. If a participant engages in unacceptable behaviour or fails to comply with expected behaviour at any time during the event, GI Cancer Trials may take any action it deems appropriate. Such action may include removal of the participant from the event without a refund and revoking their membership as per GI Cancer Trials Constitution.

What to do about unacceptable behaviour

Please notify a GI Cancer Trials staff member if you witness or are subjected to any unacceptable behaviour. If you have questions before or after an event regarding the Code of Conduct, please contact the CEO at info@gicancer.org.au.
